School trip to the Azores

São Miguel (Poça da Dona Beija and Terra Nostra Park)

On the first day in the Azores we set off to discover different places on the island, but what I liked the most was the visit to the Furnas.

When we arrived at the village of Furnas, we got off the bus and started walking through the village until we arrived at the Poça da Dona Beija. There we were able to relax after all the frustrating plane trips we had been through. The waters were warm and rich in minerals that are good for the skin.

There was also a strong smell of iron in the air because of the quantity of the minerals in the water.

After being at Poça da Dona Beija, we went to Terra Nostra Park, which has a giant lake with hot water. Before going to the thermal pool we had lunch. The food tasted really good. After resting for a while we went to the pool. This time the water was brown, but still very warm. After a long time we got back on the bus and continued our visit through the landscapes of the island of São Miguel.

 Azores, another trip?

In this text I will talk about the place I most enjoyed visiting when I went to the Azores. A place that I really liked was the old gutter because it is an extraordinary place where the view is very beautiful and the fun with friends is out of this world, even so I think I liked the lagoon of the seven cities even more, because it is a very different thing than we are used to seeing, a lagoon that is blue on one side and green on the other and with a beautiful forest around it.

These were the places that impressed me the most during the visit, but the interaction with friends and meeting the teachers without being in the habit of school was even better, for me it was the best part of the visit.

An Azorean landscape

This image was taken by me in Lagoa das Furnas, São Miguel while I was on a school trip in the Azorean Island São Miguel.

At the background we can see some big mountains which are surrounded by the beautiful and green landscape.

In the middle we can see an amazing big irregular lake which has two different shades of green and its surrounded by some green mountains with enormous large forests with big green flowery trees.

At the front we can see some more big dark green trees at the bottom of a mountain and in the right corner we can see a group of people enjoying the beautiful view ahead of them and just by looking at the picture I can clearly feel the fresh but not very strong wind blowing on my face.

The school trip to Azores

The school trip to Azores was something we were all waiting for a long time, and when the time finally came we were all really happy, and couldn’t wait to land in São Miguel so that we could see and experiment the things we had studied in the classroom in first hand.

There everything is a lot different because everything is green and beautiful. We also had the opportunity to experiment hot springs wich felt really nice, and also were able to visit a lot of beautiful and unique places, and that just came to show that we don’t need to leave our country to see these amazing things.

The best part of this school trip was that we were able to live this incredible experience with our friends.

AZORES 2022

During our trip to the Azores there were many unique and incredible places that we visited, but there was one place that stood out from the others, the Natural Monument of Caldeira Velha. This natural monument is located in Ribeira Grande, on the Island of São Miguel, in the Azores, and presents itself as a biosphere reserve of great importance for the typical fauna of the Laurisilva Forest.

Caldeira Velha presents a set of manifestations of secondary volcanism such as a fumarolic field and an iron thermal spring. Further downstream there are thermal pools whose water is heated by the fumarole and where it is possible to enjoy a relaxing thermal bath, at temperatures around 38ºC, while in the waterfall the water reaches temperatures ranging between 25 and 28ºC. Regarding the vegetation, we were able to observe some examples of native Azorean flora and we were also able to observe some endemic species.

There would be much more to say and tell about this awesome trip but I will only ad that I will certainly never ever get these memories off my mind, for all the good things we lived there.

  1. I am so proud of all these students, for everything they are, as students and as a person. Because they've never stopped fighting for what they want, no matter their personal difficulties and the battles they've had to take. They're here, with all their beliefs, waiting and struggling to find a place in the sun. And I deeply wish they will... Love you all! ;)
